Analysis Of Roadside Activity Impacts On Urban Road Level Of Service: A Case Study Of The Pasar Cipanas Road Segment

This study investigates the impact of roadside activities on road performance along the Pasar Cipanas road segment, focusing on pedestrian movement, parking, and stopping of public and other vehicles, and vehicles entering and exiting adjacent properties. The research employs a quantitative approach, collecting primary data through field observations and traffic surveys to identify the frequency and characteristics of roadside activities. The results reveal that pedestrian activities are primarily caused by the occupation of sidewalks by street vendors, forcing pedestrians to use the roadway and increasing traffic conflicts. The lack of dedicated parking facilities leads to frequent parking and stopping of vehicles on the road, particularly in commercial areas, which significantly reduces road capacity and disrupts traffic flow. Additionally, the high intensity of vehicles entering and exiting adjacent commercial properties further contributes to congestion and safety risks. The study concludes that unmanaged roadside activities have a considerable negative impact on road performance and safety. These findings highlight the need for improved urban planning and the provision of supporting infrastructure, such as designated pedestrian paths and parking areas, to minimize roadside friction and enhance overall traffic efficiency and safety in the Pasar Cipanas area.
